Text-to-Speech (TTS) engines read what you write. TTS engines generate wave buffers from arbitrary texts. Please note that text-to-speech does not understand the words read by its TTS engine in any way. The tricky yet fascinating idea about TTS is, that it generates speech according to pronunciation rules of a language rather than a specific word. This allows reading texts in a comprehensive way without understanding the single word.

Thanks to its long experience with text-to-speech systems, the ELeX-team has discovered the importance of exception lexicons for text-to-speech. ELeX's excellent team of experts in phonetics developed a general exception lexicon for text-to-speech based on Acapela's TTS engines by validating the pronunciation of presently more than 1.8 million German words and still increasing large amounts of words in 5 European languages. ELeX is capable to produce tailor-made lexicons for your specific needs.
